Agadir Residents Demand Action on Stray Dogs and Homelessness Crisis

The residents of several neighborhoods in the city of Agadir are fed up with coexisting with stray dogs and the homeless. They are calling on the competent authorities to guarantee their safety and put an end to this phenomenon that tarnishes the image of the city.

The residents of the Al Qods neighborhood have filed a complaint with the Wali of the Souss-Massa region and the King’s Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Agadir, in which they denounce the "nuisances and security threats" caused by the proliferation of stray dogs and the homeless in the city. "We are reporting the problems and dangers we face on a daily basis due to stray dogs and a group of criminals who have turned the neighborhood square into a haven for prostitution and drug trafficking, which poses a great threat to our safety and that of our children," can be read in the complaint.

This phenomenon is growing in the city, warn the complainants, who recall that the stray dogs "make [their] daily life unbearable and disturb [their] peace and security" for years. "Despite our many complaints to all the competent authorities for more than six years, we have not seen any intervention to guarantee the safety of the residents," the residents lamented, urging the competent authorities to urgently take measures to "protect the residents of the Al Qods neighborhood against all the threats and dangers that surround us before it is too late."
