Accused Disrupts Brussels Attack Trial, Sparking Courtroom Evacuation

Moroccan Ibrahim Farisi, one of the two accused appearing free at the trial of the March 22, 2016 attacks, made a new spectacular move by disrupting the proceedings during Tuesday’s hearing. The president of the assize court ordered his evacuation from the courtroom.

Ibrahim Farisi once again made himself noticed during the Brussels attacks trial. On Tuesday, the decision of his counsel to abandon him provoked his anger. "I wanted to speak to you to inform you that Maître Berger and I have come out of deference to the court since we have no instructions from Mr. Farisi; at the moment we are no longer the counsel of Ibrahim Farisi," declared lawyer Xavier Carrette. Enough to irritate his client.

Ibrahim, in turn, addressed the court, reports Belga. "I had an altercation with my lawyer, it’s not going anywhere, Madam President!" he said. "I have a question: ’Mr. Abrini, do you know me?’ he asked the lawyer. "Where is Oussama Atar? You don’t have a death certificate," the accused continued angrily. President Laurence Massart calls Ibrahim to calm down, to no avail. She then orders his evacuation from the courtroom, as he was "disrupting" the proceedings.

As agents were taking him away, Ibrahim shouted again: "I want all the accused to remain for the civil parties. The jurors understand nothing! Acquit me. Those who did it, they’re dead. You feared them. Tell me what you have on me for 7 years. Acquit me."
