300 kilos per week: How Mounir N. deceived the Antwerp customs before his shocking arrest
The drug trafficker Mounir N., originally from Genk, is expected in Belgium this week. Arrested in Colombia in 2025, he is suspected of being a key figure in the international cocaine trafficking between Latin America and European ports.
Mounir N., 43 years old, will be escorted by plane from Bogota, where he was incarcerated. Already convicted in absentia in 2021 to seven years in prison by the Tongres court, he had organized massive drug shipments to the port of Rotterdam. According to [Het Laatste Nieuws], the Limburg prosecutor’s office has confirmed his imminent extradition, relying on the immediate arrest warrant issued during his first trial.

The trafficker had been arrested in February 2025 during a large-scale operation in Barranquilla. This intervention, the result of a collaboration between the Colombian, Belgian and British authorities, put an end to the fugitive status of the one who is considered the main link of the Balkan cartel in Latin America. The investigation reveals that he had close ties with the powerful Clan del Golfo, a leading Colombian criminal organization.

The network used a sophisticated modus operandi to transport up to 300 kilos of cocaine per week. The drugs were hidden in magnetic metal boxes attached directly to the hulls of cargo ships. The shipments were then recovered at sea before the boats entered the ports of Antwerp or Rotterdam, allowing the traffickers to avoid the traditional customs controls at the docks.
