Morocco’s Olive Oil Emerges as Top Global Contender, Experts Praise Quality Improvements

This position of Morocco is largely justified by the improvement in the quality of its olive oil. "Morocco has made great progress in improving the quality of olive oil and developing a personality for Moroccan olive oil, particularly that of Meknes, from the picholine variety," said Franca Camurati, an international olive oil tasting expert.

For Mardochée Devico, CEO of LCM-Aïcha, and also president of UDOM, "this is the result of a huge amount of work, carried out since the creation of UDOM and the Olive Agropole." The two partners advocate the production of a superior quality Moroccan olive oil, which is no less than the best Mediterranean olive oils, reports L’Economiste.

According to Noureddine Ouazzani, head of the Olive Agropole ENA Meknes, it is now a question of consolidating efforts to generalize this quality and qualitative potential to a large quantity of olive oil produced in Morocco. "The enhancement of the qualitative potential of Moroccan olive oil also involves the promotion of quality," he said.

Spain, Tunisia and Turkey respectively occupy the top three places in this ranking. These three countries are fierce competitors of the kingdom.
