In a relationship with Moroccan comedian Jamel Debbouze, French journalist Mélissa Theuriau is known for her discretion, especially when it comes to her couple. She has always claimed that since they are both public figures, it is essential for her to have a private life far from the curious gaze of the general public. This is why they rarely speak in the press about their family life. The fans of the two personalities were even surprised to see Melissa Theuriau in a show where the guest is obliged to reveal themselves more extensively.
During the show, the mother of Léon (14 years old) and Lila (11 years old) explained that she plays the role of "the mean one" within the family circle. Jamel Debbouze is presented as a doting father. "I think it’s a good thing that our couple works, otherwise my children would always want to be with their father," she ironizes on this subject.
Speaking of her husband, she describes a man as she had always imagined him. "I met someone I admire enormously, who continues to impress me with his independence of mind, with freedom. I learn a lot with him," she confided.
She stressed that if she forms a fusional couple with Jamel Debbouze, it is because communication between the two spouses is a non-negotiable issue. "We talk a lot and debate. We sometimes have opinions, not opposed, but ultimately complementary. It’s always very rich," explains Mélissa Theuriau.
The journalist revealed during the show one of the weaknesses of her husband. If the 46-year-old comedian could do anything in front of thousands of spectators, the mere fact of knowing that Melissa Theuriau is among them is a destabilizing factor. "Often, I don’t say when I’m coming. It still disturbs him a bit [...], my opinion counts, as his opinion also counts. It’s also a way to continue to nurture what binds us, as long as there is admiration and a desire to please the other, it continues to touch me," she recounts.
If today they command the admiration of all, Melissa Theuriau and Jamel Debbouze have not known only happy moments. The journalist confides that "at the beginning, it was a bit violent", referring to the criticisms and insults they suffered because of their cultural and religious differences. "I didn’t expect these reactions at all. But today, we’ve been married for 14 years, I feel like society is progressing in this area," she estimated. As for their cultural diversity, Mélissa Theuriau sees it as "a wealth for their children".
